CHARGES AFTER TEEN ( 16) IS HELD CAPTIVE

- BY PAUL DEERING

Gardaí in Sligo rescued a teenage boy who was allegedly being held captive in a house in a housing estate close to the city centre.

The 16- year- old was found in a distressed condition and with severe injuries and Gardaí believe he was being held against his will for a couple of days.

The boy is said to be still traumatised by the ordeal. The circumstances surrounding how he ended up in the house has been the subject of an intensive Garda investigation over the past couple of months.

It is understood that a tip- off led Gardaí to the house and they were shocked to see the alleged victim’s blood splattered in various locations around the house.

A file on the matter went to the Director of Public prosecutions after the investigation concluded.

On Friday last at a sitting of the District Court in Harristown in Castlerea, a 19- year- old man, Harry Andrews of Glendallon, Ballytivnan was charged with the false imprisonment of the 16- year- old boy at 57 Glendallon on April 23rd last.

Andrews, who was previously charged with assault causing harm to the alleged victim was further remanded in custody.

The accused was represented by Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor who was granted free legal aid and a book of evidence is currently being prepared in the case which will eventually be heard in the Circuit Court in Sligo.

The Sligo Champion understands that the DPP has also directed that the same charges of assault and false imprisonment be brought against a 73- year- old man.

It is believed the latest charges will be brought against the second man this week at a special summer vacation sitting of the courts in County Donegal.
