NEW RESTAURANT GETS GO AHEAD AT THE POINT

PERMISSION GRANTED FOR WATERFRONT RESTAURANT, B& B

- SORCHA CROWLEY

COUNTY Planners have given the thumbs up to a new high end restaurant and boutique B& B in the old Waterfront premises in Rosses Point.

Owners Ashleigh and Padraig O’Brien got their plans green lit by Sligo County Council last week, despite objections from their next door neighbours Jan Canham and Aisling Gillen.

Internal work is already well underway inside the Waterfront since early summer. The vacant gallery will be converted to a licensed bar/ restaurant, while the first floor will be refurbished with nine old bedrooms converted into seven larger en suite guest bedrooms.

There will also be a new stairwell from ground to first floor and the rear of the existing gallery/ house.

The neighbouring Canham- Gillen family had claimed the proposed development would affect their privacy, their views to the West and stretch car parking to the front.

Further information was requested from the O’Brien’s by the Council in July and they responded by saying that they had met with their neighbours Jan Canham and Aishling Gillen and agreed to plant a hedge at the boundary wall between the two properties to maximise privacy without disrupting the view towards the west.

They also said they would fix obscure coating/ film onto the inner side of the existing glass panes which face into the neighbours garden.

The O’Briens also suggested that a distance of 11 feet was to be maintained from the boundary wall to a seating area at the front of the Waterfront, with back facing the neighbours.

The Planning Department granted permission for the restaurant subject to several conditions.
