Optimism for € 14.8m in funding for new city road
A business delegation who met with Transport Minister Shane Ross yesterday ( Monday) say they are hopeful funding for phase 2 of the Western Distributor road will be made available in the budge this October.
Chamber CEO Aidan Doyle travelled to Leinster House with Independent Councillor Marie Casserly, MEP Marian Harkin and Director of Services for Sligo County Council Tom Kilfeather. Following the meeting Mr Doyle said: “The meeting was positive. The Minister is aware that this is a priority project. We went through the current status of the scheme.
“The 2km stretch of road from the Caltragh interchange to the Ballydoogan road would cost € 14.8m to complete. We would hope to be in a position to put the works out to tender this October.”
The Western Distributor Road would link Finisklin with a planned industrial park at Oakfield.
The Chamber CEO continued: “This road and the building of this new IDA business park is necessary for job creation and economic sustainability, especially in light of Brexit.”
