Foodie Destinatio­n judges taste what Sligo has to offer

SLIGO Food Trail hosted Foodie Destinatio­n judges Zack Gallagher and Wendy Kavanagh on Saturday 12th August. They met local producers and the owner of Rathcormac Market Michael Branley, producers from Murson Farm, Sheerin Meatin Place, The Organic Market. ie and Vintage Lane Café in addition to speaking to local crafters and artists.

They received a tour of Wild Atlantic Oyster Farm by Kevin and Charlie, were treated to Oysters on arrival at Lissadell House, followed by lunch at Yeats table.

The awaiting food trail members were put through their paces by the visiting judges with an extensive Q& A session.

The judges were greeted by Chairman Anthony Gray, members Dr. Prannie Rhatigan from Irish Seaweed Kitchen, Brid Torrades from Osta Café, Lucia Cecchini from Laura’s of Carney and project co- ordinator Marie Brouder with representa­tives from agencies supporting the Sligo Food Trail – Fiona Candon, Sligo Chamber of Commerce, Eva Dearie, Failte Ireland and Gail McGibbon, Sligo BIDS kindly attending. The winner will be announced at the Headfort Arms Hotel, Co. Meath on Tuesday 29th August at an event hosted by RAI and last year’s winners The Boyne Valley.
