Naomh Eoin U12 hurlers capture A title
NAOMH Eoin’s talented U12 hurlers brought glory to the club after a gap of 9 years at this grade and following 3 finals defeats in the last 3 years last Tuesday in Markievicz Park. Captain Robert O’Kelly- Lynch inspired his team to a 9 scores to 3 win in the Sligo U- 12 A Final against a fine Castleconnor team. The game was a feast of end to end chances and hurling skills developed over the past years by dedicated coach Bill O’Kelly- Lynch and other mentors. Indeed the team displayed great strength in depth which was illustrated by the range of scorers and the spread of points and goals throughout the game. Centre- back Robert opened the scoring with a point from a free, and midfielder John Corcoran struck home the first goal following a flowing passing move. Castleconnor grabbed a score with a nice strike over the bar before the first quarter break. Throughout the final the Naomh Eoin backs battled fiercely with keeper Shea O’Neill, fullbacks Thomas Hargadon and Stefan Roche and half backs Conor Golden, and Corey O’Dowd displaying great blocking and hooking skills to limit the Castleconnor scoring. The forwards took advantage of the great work from the backs and in the second quarter Treasa O’Kel- ly- Lynch grabbed a goal from close range. A further score from a free gave Naomh Eoin a 4 scores to 1 lead at half time. In the third quarter they added a super goal from Harry Cawley, and two points from play from Robert with great skills on show from forwards including Treasa O’Kelly- Lynch, James Cronin, Ronan Niland, Patrick Murphy, Aodhan Shovelin and midfielder Dara Mostyn. In the final quarter both teams provided a great display of hurling with Naomh Eoin adding 2 scores from Robert and Dara Mostyn and Castleconnor sending over two well worked points.
