Safety measures at school to be completed in coming weeks

-

Leas Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Keith Henry says safety measures at Scoil Muire gan Smal in Ballymote will be completed in the coming weeks.

The Ballymote based Fianna Fáil Councillor has been working with the Council to complete the drop off area that was created last year in response to road safety concerns by parents and teachers.

“Over the past year I’ve been working with the management of the school and Declan Noone the Area Engineer with a view to completing the drop off point to a high standard.

“Last December we were successful in getting € 30,000 worth of funding from CLÁR to go towards the work” Cllr Henry said.

Cllr Henry is also the Vice Chairperson of the HSE West Health Committee and used his position to seek a joined up approach for surfacing works with the new Primary Care Centre in the area.

“Unfortunately the Primary Care Centre won’t be ready for surfacing for another few months meaning that the job would be incomplete before the school reopened” he added.

The work which started on Monday involves drainage, surfacing and paving works to enhance safety.

“I’d like to thank the council roads and engineering staff for persevering on this matter”.

The work is due to be completed before the school reopens in September.
