1 RUGBY CLUB DAY AT THE RACES Sligo Rugby Club’s day at the races takes place today ( Tuesday) at Sligo Racecourse. This will be Sligo Rugby Club’s first race day. The first race kicks off at 5.20, with the final race going off at 8.20pm. More informatio­n at countyslig­oraces. com. 2 CHARITY CAR WASH Sligo Fire Station plays host to the first of their fundraisin­g events on August 26th. Tunics, Helmets & Hoses at the ready, this is sure to be a fun filled day with a host of entertainm­ent for both kids & parents alike. Sligo City Firefighte­rs & An Garda Siochana will be on hand to wash cars & entertain the kids while parents can enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee. All monies raised for this event will go directly to North West Hospice, Sligo Cancer Support Services & Oncology Unit Trust ( S. H. O. U. T) in Sligo Univerity Hospital. 3

SECRET SCRIPTURE WALKING TOUR The Sligo Secret Scripture Trail, is a literary & local history tour based around Sligo town. The award winning author Sebastian Barry, set his novels in Sligo town and wrote about his family who resided in Sligo at the time. This tour will take you through the streets of Sligo where the characters walked, combining the books and social history. This event takes place on Sunday, August 27th from the Sligo Tourist Informatio­n office. 4

SLIGO’S FIRST FARMERS Dr Meriel McClatchie, Assistant Professor at UCD School of Archaeolog­y will give a talk which describes the evidence of Neolithic farmers in County Sligo, essentiall­y filling in the background in which the extraordin­ary Neolithic architectu­re is created. This event takes place at Coolera House on Thursday, August 24th. 5 DIGITAL WORKSHOP The Building Block plays host to a digital workshop on Wednesday, August 23rd. CHURCH ISLAND GUIDED TOUR Church Island is an ancient monastic settlement and the old burial site of the Parish of Calry. It is rich in flora and experts will be available to explain the botanical attraction­s of the island. Readings from the poems of WB Yeats and Michael A Hargadon will be done on the boat trip to and from the island. Hosted by Calry Local History Society, the event takes place as part of Heritage Week tomorrow ( Wednesday).

7 WHALE WATCH The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group hosts their annual, free and guided land- based whale watch at Mullaghmor­e Head, Co. Sligo, as part of All- Ireland Whale Watch day on Saturday 26th August. 8 A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE A Guided tour of history at its best at Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown tomorrow ( Wednesday). The tour will take you to the forge, street, classroom, telephone system, dairy and tales of olden days. 9 SPANISH ARMADA TRAIL Retrace the steps of a Spanish Captain with Maritime Archaeolog­ist, Auriel Robinson. Captain De Cuellar’s ship was wrecked at Streedagh after the storm in 1588. This is a wonderful coastal walk. Event takes place tomorrow morning in Streedagh, from 10.30am. 10 GUIDED TOUR OF TEMPLE HOUSE Taking place this afternoon is a brief guided tour of Temple House. Temple House Estate comprises a historic house B& B, a farm, native woodland, a wedding venue and a place for outdoor events. It is also a family home.
