Electric Picnic pro choice event should not happen

-

Madam Editor,

A perusal of the agenda for the Electric Picnic includes a joint Mindfield / Creative Ireland pro choice event. I wonder if the organisers have spotted the irony of their promotional picture. It shows campaigners standing along black shadowboards of human beings. I am not sure of their intent, perhaps it is to stand up for the nameless women who have travelled for abortions in the past. However these black shadow boards could just as easily and as validly stand for all the lives in the womb lost through abortion in the sense that those lives should be standing amongst us now. Unless we are also hearing the side of those who keep their babies through a crisis, we are only hearing part of the story. That’s why we look for the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The truth is that abortion is not medically necessary. That’s why it’s being sought for as a choice.

Let’s stand up for those who should be standing amongst us in the future.

Yours,

Kate Gallagher, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo
