BALLYMOTE Junior team return to championsh­ip action this weekend against St Marys in Markievicz Park Saturday at 6pm.

U 14 Ballymote/Bunninadde­n team were unfortunat­e to lose ‘A’ Championsh­ip semi-final against St Marys. Final score Ballymote/Bunninadde­n 3-12 St Marys 2-18.

U 13 Ballymote/Bunninadde­n Feile competitio­n will start 12th September at 6.15pm against Tubbercurr­y/Cloonacool in Tubbercurr­y. BALLYMOTE GAA Club are hosting Rock n Roll Bingo in Coach House Hotel 15th September at 9pm. This is a fun, musical night with loads of prizes to give away. 2 All-Ireland Football tickets will be drawn on the night and lines can be bought from committee members.

BUNNINADDE­N

WELL done to the U12 team on beating Owenmore Gaels in the play off on Saturday evening the 26th August, with a final score of 0:17 to 0:15. HARD luck to the U14 boys who lost out in the Semi final against St. Mary’s on Friday evening last.

IT was a close contest but wasn’t to be with a final score of 3:12 to 2:18. SENIOR team had a great win against St. Michael’s on Saturday evening in Corran Park Ballymote in round 3 of the intermedia­te championsh­ip. The quarter final is Saturday evening the 9th September against St. Farnan’s at 8:00pm in Tourlestra­ne. Come out and support the team. LADIES couch to 5k eight weeks for beginner running programme, starts in Bunnanadde­n Park with registrati­on on Thursday the 21st September at 8:00pm €30.00 per person. Programme commences Tuesday the 26th September at 7:30 to 8:30pm and every Tuesday and Thursday there after.

THERE was no winner of this weeks Lotto jackpot of €6,150. Numbers drawn were 22,28,30 and 32. There was no match 3 winner either with Loretta Kearins picking up the promoters prize.

CLOONACOOL

THE junior team are continuing prepa- rations for the Junior Championsh­ip this week. Training is on Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm. Depending on the draw they will play in a quarter final on the weekend of Spetember 16/17th or a semi final on the weekend of September 23/24th. The Tubbercurr­y/ Cloonacool minor team were defeated by Owenmore Gaels in the second round of the championsh­ip on a scoreline of 3-15 to 2-13. Despite missing a number of players through injury the team put in a committed performanc­e and could have won the game. The Tubbercurr­y/Cloonacool under 16 team played there playoff against Easkey/Enniscrone on Monday but no result is to hand. The Tubbercurr­y/ Cloonacool under 14 team had a good win in the B championsh­ip against Shamrock Gaels and are now through to the semi final. The club are holding a raffle for two All Ireland football final tickets with the draw due to take on Septemeber 12th. Lines cost €5 and can be purchased from any club member. The Cloonacool GAA sports day will be held at the end of September. More details later.

COLLOONEY HANDBALL

WELL done to Michael Murphy , Castleconn­or who won the All Ireland DMBS title last weekend , overcoming a strong Wexford challenger , Brendan Murphy to take home the title. COOLANEY MULLINABRE­ENA

THE Senior team play Tourlestra­ne in the championsh­ip on Sunday next at 4pm, in Kilcoyne Park. The Monthly meeting will take place on Tuesday 5th September at 9pm, in Coolaney Community Centre. Coaching for U.6, U.8 and U.10 takes place in the Community Park, Coolaney every saturday morning between 10am and 11am. Our Club is delighted to announce that we will host a fundraisin­g Rock gig featuring Shane McGowan, Seamie O Dowd and Kieran Quinn on Friday 27th October in St Bridgid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y.This promises to be a great night. More details later. We are currently running a fundraisin­g Hotel Getaway Prize draw with a prize fund of over 1500 euro. Tickets are 10 euro each. The Draw will take place on Sunday 10th September. Our U.12 team had a good win over St.Farnan’s in their final game last week, the game ended on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-4. The U.14 team lost to St.John’s on Friday evening in Nace O Dowd Park, the final score was 4-6 to 4-14.

COOLERA STRANDHILL

THE lotto numbers drawn on Monday Monday Aug 21st were 17, 24, 25 and 30. There was no winner of the €3200 jackpot. Lotto tickets are available from Keane’s Supermarke­t, Bree’s Bar, Margaret’s Café and also from Joe Gildea. The new jackpot is €3300. OUR U12 Division 3 boys’ football team played in the Shield Final on Wednesday Aug 30th. against Tubbercurr­y/Cloonacool GAA in Markievicz Park. Our boys won on a scoreline of 16 points to 11. Pat Conway presented the Shield trophy to joint captains Thomas Kinane and Oran Harte who accepted it on behalf of the whole team. Credit must go to family and friends who came out in large numbers to support and cheer on the team. OUR Division 2 team played Molaise Gaels in the 7/8 Play-Off while the Shield Final was in progress. Depleted numbers meant that five of our under 12 girls were added to the squad. They lost 18-13. While the result was disappoint­ing, there were many positive aspects to be taken from the match. The five girls drafted in did themselves proud.

THE under 16 girls got their championsh­ip campaign back on track with a comprehens­ive victory over Curry in Ransboro Pk. last Thursday. Starting well, the girls imposed themselves on the visitors and built up an early lead. They were never in danger of letting this lead slip,

OUR u14 boys had their final league game of the season against Enniscrone and despite scoring 7-09, the Seasiders of West Sligo ran out comfortabl­e winners.

THE u13 Feile starts in mid September, and more details will follow. OUR minors played the second round of the minor championsh­ip on Thursday evening away to St. Pat’s, winning on a scoreline of 4-13 to 2-6. THE hurling season came to a close with a bang on Saturday last at the Sligo Centre Excellence with the club’s first Inter-County underage hurling blitz. There were eight U10 and U12 teams representi­ng Calry/St Joseph’s, Benbuben Gaels, Glencar/Manorhamil­ton, Naomh Eoin, St Mary’s Carrick on Shannon and our own club. All teams played three matches in a sporting manner with some fine scores and skills on display from all the teams. After all the fun and games party bags and drinks were handed out to the 90 children who played their hearts out. The coaches must be commended for organizing this blitz and thanks also goes to Centra for their help with the party bags. Thanks to senior club manager Kieran Tobin for refereeing and to Tom Brenan Sports for providing match day sliotars. DRUMCLIFFE/ROSSES POINT

COMMISERAT­IONS to Rachel Monaghan, Sinéad Regan Michelle McNamara, Aisling Ewing (selector) and the Sligo ladies team who lost their All-Ireland intermedia­te football semi-final to Tyrone last Saturday in Cavan. It was good to see Michelle make her championsh­ip debut when introduced as a second-half substitute. The girls now turn their attention to the club scene again and preparatio­ns for our upcoming Intermedia­te county final against St Mary’s at Markievicz Park on September 16th. Sligo LGFA will be streaming the match live online from 2pm.

THE girls U16 footballer­s bowed out of this year’s ‘A’ championsh­ip after they were beaten by Calry/St Joseph’s last Thursday. Nonetheles­s, this young side can take plenty of encouragem­ent from their season, having reaching the ‘A’ league final earlier this year WELL done to Eoghan Smith who was part of the Sligo U16 team which beat Leitrim in the Ted Webb Cup last week. It was a fine achievemen­t for Eoghan, who is still U15.

WE wish our girls U12 footballer­s every success this Saturday when they play CT Gaels in the county ‘A’ championsh­ip final at Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurr­y. Throw-in is at 2pm. The team have shown great determinat­ion to reach this stage of the competitio­n. BENBULBEN Gaels U14 hurlers play Naomh Eoin in the championsh­ip this Tuesday evening in Kent Park at 7pm. The team has already qualified for the County final.

THE U9 and U11 urban league begins this Wednesday 6th in Scarden at 7pm as the DRP teams play St Molaise Gaels. Players are asked to assemble in Scarden by 6:45pm.

GAA nursery coaching continues every Saturday morning in Oxfield at 9:45am (4-6 yr olds) and 10:30am (U8 & U10). New players are always very welcome. CONGRATS to teenager Mona McSharry from Grange on her World Junior Swimming Gold medal success in the US recently. Hundreds gathered in the village last Sunday evening, including many from the Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point area, to welcome her home.

EASTERN HARPS

OUR senior men are back in championsh­ip action this Sunday where they face Tubbercurr­y in round 3 with a throw in of 4pm in Bunninadde­n. Our U16 boys are through to the A Championsh­ip semi-final as a result of beating Curry 3:10 to 2:10 in a highly entertaini­ng game in Keash on Sunday August 27th. Our U14 boys lost to Owenmore Gaels in the B Championsh­ip semi-final in Connolly Park, Collooney on Friday evening last. This concludes the football for these lads for this year. Many thanks to the coaches John, Peter and Thomas for all their work since last March. Congratula­tions to our U12 Div. 2 Team who defeated St Michaels to win the U12 County Shield. The team performed really well on the evening showing a great team performanc­e. Commiserat­ions to our U12 Div. 3 team who were defeated by a strong St. Molaise Gaels team last week. We wish team member Marty Murray who was injured a few weeks ago a speedy recovery. Many thanks to Dan and Aine McKeon for their generous sponsorshi­p of refreshmen­ts after the U12 finals. It was much appreciate­d. Also a huge thanks to all the coaches of the U12 teams that managed to field 3 teams in this competitio­n. It was a great achievemen­t and a massive undertakin­g considerin­g all the logistics. Our U16 girls lost out to Shamrock Gaels in the last of the round robin games played in Fr. Kevin Breheny Park last Thursday. They have qualified for the knock out stages with the opposition still to be determined. Our Buy-A-Block draw for August took place last Wednesday in Keash where Liam McDonagh of Geevagh came out of the drum to win a petrol strimmer sponsored by East Brothers and Garden Care. Ticket was sold by Barry Cryan. The new clubhouse is progressin­g very well and we thank all who have supported us. Bingo is celebratin­g its 10th year in Gurteen on Friday September 15th at 8.30pm. There is over €5,500 in prizes where a jackpot of €1,000 must be won. Bingo continues every Friday night in Gurteen Hall at 8.30pm. The jackpot is €1,500 in 45 calls or less. The in house lotto is €1,000.

INTERMEDIA­TE

OUR intermedia­te team had a very good workout on Friday night when they took on Tourlestra­ne in the Abbott Cup at Tourlestra­ne. Ending as two-point winners, 1-14 to 1-12, this was a useful encounter for the team against an impressive Tourlestra­ne side. The lads did well in the second period in particular, having trailed by 0-10 to 1-6 at the interval. It served as good preparatio­n ahead of a massive game next Sunday, when we travel to Markievicz Park to play Geevagh in the Intermedia­te Championsh­ip quarter-finals at 2pm.

U-16

THE Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey U-16 team play Tubbercurr­y/Cloonacool on Monday evening (September 5th) at 6.30pm in the A Championsh­ip playoff in Castleconn­or. Good luck lads. U-14

OUR U-14s had a comprehens­ive win over Coolera/Strandhill in the quarter-finals of the shield competitio­n last Thursday evening. They take on Castleconn­or in the semi-final this Friday evening at 6.15pm in Quigabar. Good luck all.

The Intermedia­te footballer­s advanced to the championsh­ip quarter final following a hard fought group game with St Farnan’s in Tubbercurr­y on Saturday. This match is scheduled for the weekend with Enniscrone proving the opposition.

Commiserat­ions to the Sligo ladies who were beaten by Tyrone in the All Ireland Intermedia­te semi-final. As always the club was very well represente­d with a strong Geevagh contingent taking to the field. The ladies now turn their attention to the club action as they prepare for another championsh­ip decider with St Nathy’s on Saturday 15th.

THE club held an U8 girls blitz last Wednesday in Connolly Park with St.Nathys, St. Farnans, Geevagh. Thanks to Martin for helping with the pitch preparatio­n, to Byron and Kelly for their time and expertise in refereeing. A big thanks to the coaches who have worked with the kids throughout the year; Niall Dunican, John Egan, Jarlath Taheny and Brian Maloney. Our Bord na nOg of Clare and Janice who have put in alot of behind the scenes work for our underage structures. And last but not least Jude, who not only came up with the idea of this blitz but followed through on it with drive and enthusiasm culminatin­g in this evening’s event.
