RAILWAY EXPO

Two esteemed former SL and NCR employees, Pádraig McKeon and Denis McGuinness were guests of honour in the Leitrim Sculpture for the recent opening of the Manorhamilton and District Historical Society promoted exhibition marking the closure of the Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway (SL and NCR) on September 30, 1957.

There was a big turnout on the occasion in the Leitrim Sculpture Centre for the event. After a short address of welcome by District Historical Society chairperson, Gerry Creamer the exhibition was officially launched by Pádraig McKeon and Denis McGuinness who cut the exhibition ribbon to rapturous applause.

The exhibition contained many memorabilia SL and NCR items from timetables, a staff member’s uniform, a coal shovel that was used to throw coal into the train’s steam engines fireboxes, plus several other railway tools, etc., that were last used more than 60 years ago before the much loved Enniskillen to Collooney service sadly closed.
