DONATE BLOOD

There will be a blood donation clinic in St Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y, on Thursday, September 7, from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. As always the call goes out and Blood is in short supply and everyone who can should consider donating.

It is a wonderful act of caring for others; a genuine gift of life to a person in desperate need. Someone will live because you give. Within three weeks of donation you can be assured your blood will have assisted in saving someones life. No greater gift is possible.

DVD OF WALK

A DVD of a walk from Ballina to Tubbercurr­y in May 1997 retracing the route taken by the famous racehorse, Ballyara Lad, transporti­ng grain from Ballina to Tubbercurr­y during the Great Famine, is now available in the following outlets: Gillespies, Surlis’ SuperValu, Murphy’s Spar, K & B Hardware, Killoran’s Restaurant, Daybreak and Barry’s Pharmacy.

The DVD also includes a re-enactment of an eviction scene at Lough Talt by members of the Phoenix Players. All Proceeds are in aid of the Concern Famine in East Africa Relief Appeal.

COUNTRY MARKET

Drummartin Country Market (9km out the Ballina road from Tubbercurr­y, on right besides Joe Dan’s Pub) is open every Saturday, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

As usual they have a fantastic range of home baked goods, free range eggs, organic dexter beef, organic lamb and organic vegetables by Crimlin Farm, Rose’s plants, wood turned products, Jackie’s baskets and many other crafts from knitted to printed.

The people of Easkey would like to wish Fr Kevin Loftus a long and happy retirement. Fr Kevin has purchased a wonderful gift of a defibrilla­tor for the parish. This will be placed on the wall of Easkey Church soon. A defibrilla­tor is a lifesaving tool which is a great asset to the community. T.

A three-hour training course will provide us with these skills and a certificat­ion for two years to use a defibrilla­tor. We need as many people trained as possible. It is as simple as watching a video and practising on some manakins. The course is been offered free of charge starting in October in Easkey. BRIDGE CLUB

TRACTOR RUN

The annual Across the Mountain and Down the Brae tractor run from Skreen-Dromard Community Centre takes place on Sunday, September1­0. Registrati­on from 12.30 till 1.45 p.m. €20 per Tractor. Proceeds in aid of the council for the Blind and the Order of Malta.

BLING IT BRING IT

On Sunday, September 10, at 1 p.m. Killeenduf­f National School will hold their annual 5K ‘Bling it Bring it’ family walk/run or cycle. Registrati­on at the school from 11.30. Bling your bike or buggy or even your puppy. Entry fee: €10 per adult, €5 per child or €20 per family. All welcome to this fun family event.

SPEECH AND DRAMA

Kilgannon School of Speech and Drama enrolment for classes takes place Friday, September 15in Dromore west community centre at 6 p.m. Classes will include a variety of speech and drama activities as well as some arts and crafts. IRISH DANCING

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

Templeboy Parent and Toddler Group will resume weekly meetings on Friday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to midday in the Old Schoolhous­e Templeboy (next to the church). The first week the Public Health Nurse (Claire Mullaney) will visit to chat to new Mums and weigh babies. This is a super way to meet other parents and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee at just €2 per family.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Easkey Community Council CLG has been notified by Sligo Co.Co. that work on the repair of the river walk and boundary fence will commence on Monday, September 11. The work to the boundary fence will be the first to be undertaken and while this work is ongoing it will not impact on persons wishing to use the river walk. It is expected that the repairs to the walk itself will then commence and will take approximat­ely two weeks to complete. There will be no access to the river walk during this period.
