Struck van at filling station and drove off

A driver who struck a van at a f illing station drove of f af ter wards, Sligo District Court was told.

Summoned for failing to remain at the scene of an accident at Sligo Gate Filling Station at Rathrippon, Collooney on August 22nd 2016 was John St ygall (62) of Ballinacar­row.

Inspector Donal Sweeney told the cour t a man had parked his van at the f illing station and had gone in to get something to eat when his van was struck and driver failed to stop. The damage amounted to €480.

The defendant told Judge Kevin Kilrane he didn’t know he had damaged the van at the time.

Mr Stanley Harte, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant’s insurance company was looking af ter the damage.

The Judge said he viewed incident s like this as nast y even if the damage was minor. The defendant should have stopped.

However, he was t aking into considerat­ion the defendant’s age, good record and his guilt y plea and struck out the case.
