Mail Coach Road/Pearse Road new link road gets approval
A new link road has been approved from the junction of Burton Street/Pearse Road to the junction of Mail Coach Road/Connolly Street.
Councillors voted last week to approve the new road.
The Council plans to build the road which will allow vehicles from Mail Coach Road and Temple Street to directly access Pearse Road and vice versa.
Councillors Declan Bree, Chris MacManus and Tom MacSharry welcomed the move.
Cllr Bree said the ongoing delay in progressing the new link road continues to “cause significant difficulties for residents of the lower St Bridget’s Place area.
Cllr MacManus said the St Bridget’s road was “really not designed for two-way traffic”.
Cllr MacSharry said businesspeople would also have bought property in the area on the basis the link road would be built.
Official Tom Brennan said the Council’s next step was land acquisition - “CPO if necessary” - and to look for funding from the Department for this which “may take some time.”
