Rural Equality Bill

COUNCIL members agreed to have the Council call on the Goverment to enact Sinn Féin’s Rural Equality Bill which would force state bodies such as Bus Eireann to consider effects of their actions on Rural Ireland.

The motion was proposed by Cllr Thomas Healy who criticised Minister Shane Ross for not taking action to ensure rural school children weren’t adversely affected by the School Bus Transport Scheme. “It’s disappointing to see a Minister who has the power say he hasn’t power - if he hasn’t, who has?” said Cllr Healy.
