Council urged to build bus shelters

-

SCHOOLCHILREN in Rathcormac are having to shelter under a shop canopy and then dart across the busy main N15 when they see their bus coming.

Councillor Hubert Keaney said eight children were taking their lives in their hands every morning because they have no bus shelter in the village.

He urged the Council to go and build a bus shelter themselves and stop waiting on Bus Eireann to do it. “We could have it done within a month,” he told members.

Cllr Dara Mulvey said it was “very bad that in 2017 something with a back and two sides couldn’t be erected.” Cllrs Paul Taylor and Cathaoirleach Seamus Kilgannon supported the call.

Officials said they had been trying to get Bus Eireann and TII to erect the shelters but admitted they “may have to review that.” Cllr Keaney suggested using Rathcormac as a trial run.
