First for ladies’ football as finals to be streamed
SLIGO Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) is preparing to play in front of a much wider audience than Sligo ahead of the county finals this Saturday, September 16.
Local company Fastcom will provide the broadband to stream all three of the county finals —which take place in Markievicz Park— live on YouTube, making Sligo LGFA the first in the country to do so.
Sligo LGFA Chairperson, Keith Gilroy said: “This could not happen without the help of Fastcom Broadband who have made this possible by their very kind sponsorship. This is another first for ladies’ football and allows the Sligo diaspora all over the world the opportunity to see these games live.”
Keith said that the LGFA was always looking to try something new. In the past, the association has introduced the ref camera, the sin bin, and the countdown clock with timer.
Three years ago, Sligo LGFA decided to hold all three finals on one day to create an occasion buzzing with atmosphere, and to draw a larger audience.
Now, the audience is set to get bigger thanks to the LGFA’s innovation and Fastcom’s sponsorship.

The three finals in Markievicz Park will see Coolera / Strandhill play against Curry in the junior; St Mary’s versus Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the intermediate; and St Nathy’s versus Geevagh in the senior.
