Plea for drug to save life of Peter

- By SORCHA CROWLEY

A local cancer charity fundraiser is being denied access to a life-changing cancer drug because it could take the HSE a year to provide it.

Retired primary teacher Peter Milne urgently needs kidney cancer drug Nivolumab to stop his cancer spreading. The Gov- ernment announced in July that it had resolved a dispute with the HSE over funding it and would start providing Nivolumab and eight other drugs by this month (September).

Two months later, Peter’s cancer has grown but there’s still no sign of the HSE providing the drug, according to his consultant.

His wife Bernie Marron is making a desperate plea to Health Minister Simon Harris and the HSE to hold true to their word and provide it for Peter before it’s too late.

“We’ve gone from the euphoria last July when it was announced that the Government approved it for reimbursement to crushing disappointment,” Bernie told The Sligo Champion.

The HSE had not responded to a request for a comment from this newspaper by the time of going to press yesterday.
