Come talk to us on rates bills - Council
SLIGO County Council has appealed to the business community to make contact with them if they are experiencing difficulty in paying their rates.
A council spokesman made the plea in the wake of a prosecution at the local District Court of a businessman who owed over €10,000 in rates.
The businessman was issued with a warrant to pay €10,320.48 plus costs over failure to pay an outstanding rates bill.
The spokesperson for the Council said: ‘ This case is one of a number of we are currently pursuing through the courts to ensure that the amount due is paid.
“In fairness to the rate-payers who consistently pay on time every year, we are obliged to recover all outstanding rates due.’
The spokesperson added that they would meet with any rate-payer who is experiencing difficulty to arrange a plan to suit their particular circumstances.
The revaluation of all commercial and industrial properties in Sligo has now been completed and Valuation Certificates were issued to ratepayers in this Local Authority area in recent days.
