‘ A generation of children being failed’

-

THE continued lack of a Child Psychology service is “failing a whole generation of Sligo children with a range of disorders who urgently need early intervention to give them an optimum chance for their future according to Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy who has been working with a number of distressed parents and the Our Voice-Their Future campaign group to seek the return of the service to Sligo.

“I have received a number of heartbreaking letters from parents of children, both preschool and school age suffering from a range of disorders, who have been told very bluntly that they will not be receiving a psychology service anymore. In all the policy and health documents early intervention psychology services are seen as essential for carrying out assessments in order to determine which school and what level of supports are required to give these children the chance to function to the best of their ability in life. This is an absolute travesty that services are not now being provided. Parents throughout Sligo are exasperated and at their wits end.”
