Walking the Sligo Way can be dangerous in wet weather
Last Wednesday I decided to walk the Sligo Way from Slish Wood to Dromahair.
It was quite rainy but I was making progress and enjoying the views until I started the descent to Lough Gill.
This part of the path was almost impassable but I pressed on until my feet hit a puddle that brought water up to my waist. It was quite alarming.
I struggled to get out and lurched my way back on to the earlier part of the path.
I got a mouthful of water and my boots and trousers took a hammering. I made my way back to the Slish Wood (pictured) car park and as there was no one about and I had no mobile I had to walk back along the road to Sligo.
I told the people in the Tourist Office about this.
I had a similar experience in Drumshanbo but there the water was only knee-level.
The Sligo Way booklet represents this walk as moderate but in certain weather conditions the mountains are always dangerous.
I would strongly advise anyone against attempting this walk at the moment. Yours faithfully
