EJ’S Sligo All-Stars get season underway with a win

-

THE Mercy College was packed to capacity on Saturday night as the new season got underway for EJ’s Sligo AllStars when they welcomed LIT Limerick for the first game.

Head Coach Alberto Garcia from Spain joined the All-Stars prior to the new season and the 30-year-old brings a lot of experience having coached top teams in Sweden.

His charges put in a good display to defeat their Limerick opponents by five points in what was a hugely entertaining game.

The large crowd was on the edge of their seats for most of the game with the lead changing on many occasions.

The Mercy College was brimming with noise as the game ebbed and flowed with both teams putting in huge performances.

The club said it was a great start to the season in front of their fans and a fantastic way for Alberto to sample the Sligo AllStars fans in full voice.

On to the next game away to Neptune in Cork next Saturday night with a 7pm tip off.

The All-Stars said they were really appreciative for everyone who came out to support the team in their season opener last Saturday.

It was a tough game but a good result for the first game of the season,

After the match, Head Coach Alberto said he was amazed by the atmosphere in the Mercy.

He added that it was a fantastic display from the All-Stars especially taking into consideration they have not been working together all that long.

He said: “The season opener against LIT Celtics from Limerick resulted in a thrilling 5 points win for our EJ’s Sligo All Stars team at the Mercy on Saturday night.

“It was a great atmosphere and amazing support from our fans that helped our team to pull our a win against a fearless team with Matt St Amour, their best scorer with 57 points.

“I personally think this is a positive result, taking into consideration that we’ve only been working together for a very short amount of time.

“When we look at the bright side of things, we are patient and we now get back to work so that we can build on the things we did well and correct the things that could be better,

“I truly believe that there are great things ahead of us.

“I am very excited to see how far we can take it with this amazing group of players we have.

“See you all in 2 weeks in our next home game vs Portlaoise Panthers!”.
