-

ST Mary’s captain Karen Maloney has been awhile waiting for the Intermediate title and Saturday was their day.

After being in the final stage for three years in a row, losing two, St Mary’s finally got across the line on Saturday.

The half forward said it was a great day having the ladies finals played in Markievicz Park and thanked the organisers for the work they put in.

The captain also congratulated runners up Drumcliffe/Rosses Point and said that St Mary’s were very familiar with being in their position the last two years.

She added: “I want to thank Drumcliffe/Rosses Point. We are used to being here in the final the last two years and we have been on your side of it.

“I want to thank you for a great game, it was really end to end stuff and only for the goals, there was little difference between the two teams.

“I would also like to thank our management team. “Shane (Breheny) for the effort he has put in over the last two years with us.

“I want to thank Mark (Breheny) for coming in and giving a hand as well as Sinead (Corcoran),” Karen said.

There were celebratory scenes as the Intermediate trophy then made its way home to Kent Park.
