St Pats ran out winners and advanced to the semi final were the will play away to Coolaney/Mullinbrenna on Friday next Sept 22nd @ 6pm in Nace O’Dowd Park. OUR senior men’s footballers competed in the Kilmacud All-Ireland sevens in Dublin for the first time ever last Saturday, drawing one and losing two of their three group matches. Niall Collery turned in a man of the match performance in DRP’s 2-10 to 4-4 draw with Glenavy of Antrim. We were competitive too in our games against St Olaf’s of Dublin and Leixlip of Kildare despite eventually losing both matches. The DRP panel of players was: Seán Power, Neil Ewing (C), Niall Collery, Jamie Gillen, Kevin Davey, Ronan McCormack, Jude McGarry, Dara Long, Niall Canning, Aaron McCormack. Managers: Fergal O’Flaherty & Kevin Dufficy. Attention now turns to this Saturday’s Belfry SFC relegation semi-final against St Molaise Gaels in Markievicz Park at 5:45pm. Victory would secure our senior championship status for 2018. The losers will face Curry in the relegation final. The team would appreciate big club support on Saturday for this vital fixture. There was disappointment for our ladies intermediate footballers last Saturday at Markievicz Park in the ladies intermediate championship final against St Mary’s. The opposition’s firepower upfront and experience ultimately proved telling but this was a more competitive contest than the final scoreline of 8-8 to 2-11 suggests. With all bar five of the time aged 18 or younger, this was a fine campaign and achievement to reach the decider. The girls and their management team of Mike Healy, Margaret Regan and Cyril McNamara deserve great credit for the work they have put in this season. This developing team will come again. Our boys U16 footballers play their re-arranged championship playoff against St Mary’s this Monday evening in Scarden at 6pm. The U13 footballers opening Féile match against Castleconnor has been re-arranged for next Sunday in Oxfield. ST MARY’S

CONGRATULATIONS to our Ladies on winning the Intermediate Championship last Saturday, when with their blend of youth and experience, they defeated a game Drumcliffe/Rosses Point side in an entertaining final in Markievicz Park. The final was played in constant rainfall, yet the teams served up some fantastic football with high scoring throughout. Our girls showed tremendous application and commitment from every position on the pitch, and were ably led by their Captain, Karen Maloney who together with a fluid forward line scored some vitally important goals at critical times to keep us ahead of our opponents. Every match has key moments and in the dying seconds of the first half, Drumcliffe/Rosses Point broke forward and scored a late goal, only to be immediately countered before the half time whistle by a goal from our girls. Then early in the second half Drumcliffe Rosses Point threw everything at us and eventually breached our defence, only for Goalkeeper Karen Lynch to pull off a quality save and become an immediate hero. From this point Marys controlled proceedings and added to their lead to complete the final scoreboard of 8-08 to 2-11. The final whistle sparked wild celebrations and a huge burden of losing the previous 2 finals was lifted from St Marys.
