Charity match in memory of Paddy McCarrick raises €15k
THE recent charity football match in memory of Paddy McCarrick has raised a substantial amount of money for charity.
A total of €15,000 has been collected which will be going toward local charities, including the RNLI.
After the tragic death of Paddy (62) from Garavogue Villas, his family, including wife Phil, daughter Lisa and son Thomas decided to organise a charity match in the Showgrounds.
It was held two months to the date when Paddy sadly lost his life following a kayaking accident.
Hundreds of people, including extended family, friends and neighbours in Garavogue Villas, turned up to support the charity match, which saw a team from the Blue Lagoon taking on a team from Sligo University Hospital, where Paddy worked.
The RNLI is among the charities benefitting and a presentation night is being organised to give the money to the charities this month.
It will be held in the Blue Lagoon on Saturday, September 23rd from 8pm and everyone is welcome.
Lisa said the family was delighted with how much attention the charity match got and the amount of money was above their expectation. She said: “We have raised €15,000 and we are totally overwhelmed. We want to thank all the people who helped out. It was some amount to raise in such a short space of time. Thanks so much for all your help.
“We are presenting the charities on the 23rd of September in the Blue Lagoon at 8pm.”
The football match saw the Blue Lagoon being crowned cham- pions following an entertaining game of football. Lisa said her dad was sports mad and was always watching a game, particularly his beloved Manchester United. “He made some impact. We will be doing the charity match next year around Dad’s anniversary in June,” Lisa added.
