Olivia Kenny is the 30th Marion Coyne Perpetual Cup winner in Strandhill
IT has been 30 years since 17-year-old Marion Coyne sadly died from Leukaemia. The 30th Marion Coyne Perpetual Cup, which is held in her memory each year in Strandhill Golf Club, took place recently to raise money to help young people with Leukaemia.
Marion was an only child and her parents Mary and Jim from Pearse Road have been organising the competition every year and the money raised goes toward the Young People for Leukaemia.
This helps young people with Leukaemia in the region in whatever way they need, such as helping out with expenses in travelling to Dublin for treatments, any household things their parents require and so forth.
For the first 25 years, the competition was for young golfers, before it became a contest for ladies members of Strandhill five years ago. The Marion Coyne Perpetual Cup was held on August 17th in Strandhill Golf Club and there was a great turnout for the competition with Olivia Kenny winning the event.
Among those taking part was Sheila McCrann, Lady Captain of Strandhill Golf Club and Marian Quinn, Lady Vice Captain of the club.
The 2017 winner is Olivia Kenny from the Strandhill Road, with a great score on the day, who was presented with the Cup by Marion’s parents, Mary and Jim.
They said the Perpetual Cup has been widely supported in the community since it first started and thanked everyone who has taken part, over the years or donated money and to Strandhill Golf Club for hosting the event.
