Over 5,000 books were checked out during reading challenge
The Summer Stars Reading programme at Ballymote Community Library commenced at the end of June and concluded with a ceremony in the library on Saturday the 2nd of September at 11.30am.
Leas Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Keith Henry was on hand to present all participating children with a Summer Stars Medal and Certificate, and not forgetting some treats.
Summer Stars 2017 was a huge success in Ballymote Community Library with 252 children joining the programme. Of those, 46 were joining the Library for the first time in order to take part.
Over five thousand children’s books were checked out during the reading challenge, which almost a thousand more than last year.
The children really enjoyed ordering in their favourite books for free using the new national library system.
As well as reading, children visited Ballymote Library throughout the summer to enjoy coding classes, board game sessions, the book doctor’s clinic and 250 children attended our weekly summer story time and craft sessions.
Congratulations to all our young readers!
