CHRISTY MOORE
After a gap of over six years Irish music legend Christy Moore makes a welcome return to Sligo for a unique and intimate concert at the Radisson Blu hotel on Friday September 29 th.
Christy Moore has been singing, recording and writing songs for most of his 71 years. He has been on the road since 1966 starting out in the pubs and small folk clubs in Ireland and England and eventually performing in most of the premier concert venues throughout Ireland, England, Europe and the United States.
In 2016 a highly acclaimed film on the life and songs of Christy Moore was screened on RTE television .The film “Christy Moore: Journey”, was a provocative and powerful film shot over a 5-month period on the road. For 50 years Christy has sung about the issues that have deeply affected him.
And the film brought the songs to the locations and the people that inspired them. It was a deeply personal and human film, revealing Christy’s often time’s controversial actions and opinions, which make him truly unique.
“Christy Moore: Journey”, was all about the songs. These songs give voice to those who need a voice and gave a real and raw perspective of life as it is in all its guises. The songs give shape to who we are and what we are. His songs guide us through the journey from the Irish in London in the sixties and on through the issues and events that shocked and shaped us to the present day and what we have become.
