The Sligo Champion

Chairman encourages apprenticeships

-

THE Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Seamus Kilgannon has predicted a growing interest in apprenticeships. “The second year of Ireland’s first apprenticeship degree course at IT Sligo was rolled out recently, and this is a very positive de- velopment which I expect to see imitated by other colleges in the near future. The course was launched by former Minister for Education Richard Bruton last year, and I welcome the fact that the Government is seeking to extend the programme to other sectors.” The Cathaoirleach has been a consistent advocate of the apprenticeship system and feels there is great potential in investing in its development. The national review of the Apprenticeship Programme in 2013 highlighted areas for improvement and identified new apprenticeship opportunities.”
