Fourth traffic warden appointed

-

THE appointment of a fourth traffic warden in Sligo town was welcomed at the meeting, amid concern that the problem of illegal parking was getting worse.

Cllr Marie Casserly asked the Council to direct more resources into parking enforcement.

Members were told that the number of traffic fines issued has significantly increased from January to August this year, compared with the same period last year.

Welcoming the feedback, Cllr Casserly said illegal parking seemed to be getting worse.

“I’ve been getting photos of cars parked illegally down Finisklin. People are being forced to walk on the road because of them,” she said.

“It’s just very dangerous. There are cycling lanes for a reason. People also use buggies and wheelchairs.

“People should be aware not to park on cycle lanes and walkways,” she added.

The fourth traffic warden was hired 19 th of June this year.
