Yeats family items for sale at auction

-

A hoard of items from the Yeats Family Collection will go on sale at an auction in London this week.

For sale on the day will be “a treasure trove of works – many never before seen - that come directly from the Yeats family. It comprises paintings, drawings, prints, letters, furniture, silver and other personal items that relate to John Butler Yeats, his four remarkable children William, Jack, ‘Lily’ and ‘Lolly’, and ending with W.B. Yeats’ daughter Anne,” according to the Sotheby’s catalogue.

The sale is a testament to the family’s extraordinary talent and their influence upon Irish culture and beyond since the turn of the 20 th century.

The Sotheby’s auction takes place tomorrow ( Wednesday) at 10.30.

Much of the commentary surrounding the auction centres around the fact that Ireland could very well lose some important Yeats collection items in the auction.
