Sligo Rovers Astro League has begun

THE Sligo Rovers Astro League is back for the new season with lots of exciting contests in store.

The season kicked off last week, with 13 teams registered for the popular night league.

The format of the league is quite similar to the Scottish Premiershi­p, with each team playing each other once, with the league split in two divisions thereafter,

It will become a top and bottom division.

All teams then revert to zero points.

Matches are held every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday night on the Show- grounds Astro with members of the public welcome to attend.

Teams who have registered for the new season are as follows: Bald Eagles, Ballymote Celtic, Bourbon Bar, Calry, Cornview Celtic, Foleys Bar, Forrest Celtic, GSS, Inter Inferno FC, Sally Gardens, Strand Celtic, STSG and finally The White Gorillas.

League Co-ordinator, Shane Crossan, spoke on the start of the new season.

He said he expects this new season to be one of the most competitiv­e in the league’s history.

He added: “I am really excited about the new season as it has the makings of being the most competitiv­e Sligo Rovers Astro league to date.

“A heartfelt thank-you to each team for their commitment and support of the league and indeed the club as a whole.

“I am really looking forward to the weeks ahead as we can finally get games of football played after a long off season.”

The opening week of games witnessed a goal fest each night with wins for Foleys Bar, Bourbon Bar, Calry, Cornview, Forrest Celtic and Ballymote Celtic. The Sligo Champion will have weekly reports of all games each week.

This week’s fixtures are as follows:

Tuesday 26th 9pm Cornview Celtic v STSG

Wednesday 27th 8pm Foleys Bar v White Gorillas

Wednesday 27th at 9pm Bald Eagles v GSS

Friday 29th at 8pm Ballymote Celtic v Inter Inferno

Friday 29th at 9pm Calry v Strand Celtic.

The Sligo Rovers Astro League’s new season will be action packed with plenty of competitiv­e games in store.
