LOCAL DEVELOPMEN­T

Cadra prioritise­d the clearing of the old footpath from Church to Molly Fulton’s Restaurant as its 2017 project. We have written to all local representa­tives to assign some of their enhancemen­t money allocation to this project and have had confirmati­on from three. Delighted to see work progressin­g which has now reached to area past the garages. Thanks to road staff Sligo County Council for undertakin­g this work which will allow people walk in comfort to the local pub and restaurant to meet friends.

Anne Carton’s Crèche, The Hawthorns, Carraroe has been nominated for a Families First Award in recognitio­n of our commitment to the field of early Years Care and Education. RECYCLING BANK

Cadra has been informed that Carraroe is approved for a recycling bottle/can bank. It is proposed to locate it at the car park beside the weighbridg­e. We want to hear all opinions on the proposal as part of a community wide consultati­on. All views will be considered and discussed before final decisions are made. DANCE LESSONS AND BAND

Dance lessons followed by live band every Wednesday night in Carraroe Community Centre Sligo from 8.30 p.m. to late. Learn to Jive, Waltz, Quick Step and more. Beginners and Improvers welcome.

Ballygawle­y Sooey Defibrilla­tor Group is providing an education evening on Basic Life Support and Cardiac Arrest in Castledarg­an Hotel Ballygawle­y on Thursday, October 19, at 8 p.m..Guest speakers are Brigid Sinnott National BLS coordinato­r, Irish Heart Foundation, Mark Callahan National Ambulance Service First Responder Coordinato­r, Siobhán Masterson National Project Manager Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest, Darren Torpy Air Sea Rescue 118 Coast Guard Sligo. LAKEVIEW ICA GUILD

Welcome back to all our members for another season of fun and friendship. We had our first meeting on September 5 and we are delighted to say winter programme is now up and running.

The members that attended the Sligo weekend at An Grianan on the eighth to September 10 had a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend. Thanks to Mary Mulligan for organising this weekend and please note Mary is now taking names for those interested in attending the next Sligo weekend.

The national final of the ALDI brown bread competitio­n was held on Thursday, September 21, at the ploughing championsh­ips and we are delighted to say that our Sligo entry Mary Conway from Aclare Guild was the overall winner. Congratula­tions Mary from all at Sligo federation. We hope all the members who attended the ploughing championsh­ips enjoyed the trip.

The federation committee meeting will be held in Carraroe Community Centre on Monday, September 25, at 8 p.m.

The National president Marie O’Toole will beattendin­g the Dromore West/Templeboy Guild celebratio­ns on Tuesday, October 17.This is a great opportunit­y for all guilds to meet their national president and all are encouraged to attend and celebrate this special occasion in the life of a guild.

The Coolaney Guild is celebratin­g its 50th birthday this year, as part of the celebratio­ns the guild is organising an open meeting in Coolaney Community Centre on Friday, September 29, at 8 p.m. – All guilds are invited to attend. The next meeting of Lakeview Guild will be on Tuesday, October 3, at 8 p.m. in Carraroe Community Centre.

FITNESS/WELLBEING

Metafit training, circuit training, yoga classes, turbo cycle training, athletics training, and aerial remedy classes are just some of the activities which run each week at the Oxfield Community Centre to help you improve your fitness and wellbeing. BASKET MAKING

A basket making course with Paddy Joe Gallagher will take place on Monday evenings in Maugherow Hall starting on October 2. All materials and tools will be supplied ad all levels from beginners to the more advanced are very welcome. The course costs €100 for 10 weeks. ATHLETIC CLUB 40TH

The North Sligo Athletics Club celebrates 40 years in existence with a dinner dance function on Friday, October 6, in the Radisson Blue Hotel, Sligo. Special guest on the night will be Irish Olympian Thomas Barr, who was fourth in the 400m hurdles in Rio in 2016. Tickets cost €40 and are available from any committee member.

The annual Sleep Out in aid of North West Simon Community takes place on Friday October October 6 in Sligo Town. Would you sleep out for one night so others don’t have to?
