The Camerata will perform the opening concert at 8pm on Friday 6 th October and the closing concert at 8pm on Sunday 8th.

The festival will highlight the work German composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 – 1767) on the 250 th anniversary of his death, with four concerts featuring his music and that of his contemporaries.

There is a rare opportunity to hear a live performance of Telemann’s work for voice in Solo Cantata at 4pm on Sunday.

The Sligo Baroque Orchestra, comprised of young Sligo musicians, will perform under its leader, Nicola Cleary, a regular with Wexford Festival Orchestra and international ensembles.

English harpsichord maker and performer Colin Booth, who is well known to regular festival goers, will perform a programme of Hamburg music at 2pm on Saturday, including works by Telemann and Handel.

While ‘unique’ is an often abused word, it might be appropriate to describe the opportunity for Sligo audiences to attend the fully costumed performance of Baroque Dance at 8pm on Saturday 7 th October. Come along and imagine yourself as a courtier at Versailles, listening to wonderful music while witnessing a spectacle rarely seen since the days of Louis XIV (the Sun King).

The festival will also highlight the Viola da Gamba with music for virtuoso solo viol and for viol consort in a late evening concert at 10 pm on Saturday and lunchtime (1pm) on Sunday.

Performers will include Aoife Nic Athlaoich as well as Reiko Ichise one of the finest gamba players in the UK and Sarah Groser a member of the Rose Consort of viols for fifteen years who has worked with other ensembles including London Baroque and the Dowland Consort.
