Driver is jailed and banned for ten years

A 22-year-old man has been jailed for five months and banned from driving for ten years after being caught driving without insurance on three occasions.

Rene Makula, a native of Slovakia living in Frenchpark and formerly of Cnoc Na Si, Tubbercurr­y admitted not having insurance at Rathscanlo­n, Tubbercurr­y on August 11 th and December 20 th 2016 and also Carrowgubb­adagh, Carraroe on July 29 th 2016.

Inspector Padraic Burke said the defendant was banned previously on October 6 th 2016 for one year for not having insurance. He was also banned for speeding in April this year.

Mr John Anderson, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant, a father of one lived with his partner and was asking the court for one final chance and not to be sent to prison.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said the previous conviction­s were serious. Recognisan­ces were fixed in the event of an appeal.
