The work Coney Island is doing to rehabilitate and interpret what was a dying community and way of life was “quite inspirational.” The brightly painted pump and post-box had “great visual impact.” The star-shaped fort are “fascinating.” Landscaping was praised. Judges said it was “unfortunate that residents have to clean up after visitors” and said it was “astonishing rubbish was dumped at the intertidal lake.” Renovated cottages and homes were charming.
