Anglers’ concern over pike control in Lough Arrow
SLIGO Anglers are seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Rural and natural resources Sean Kyne TD and the Fisheries Chairman Fintan Gorman on pike control in Lough Arrow.
They say there is a need to control pike in western lakes, includinginc Sligo’s Lough Arrow to ensure the development of wi wild brown trout stocks.
The announcement follows the launch of their campaign ‘PiPike are Predators – Save our Wild Brown Trout’ which attra tracted over 200 anglers to Oughterard.
Chairperson of the Connacht Angling Council, Martin KinneavyKi said: “I have informed both Minister Kyne and Mr GormanGo of the threat posed by pike to wild brown trout in the greatgre western Loughs. Inland Fisheries Ireland is currently reviewingrev its policy regarding control of pike. I have asked th that both do all in their power to ensure that these world fam famous Irish wild brown trout fisheries are protected by law fromfro pike so they can reach their full trout angling potential.”
