Cartron go top of Premier League

-

BALLYGAWLEY Celtic shared the spoils with Ballymote Celtic in the Great Southern Hotel Sligo Super League at the Astro in Cleveragh on Wednesday night last.

Ballymote took an early lead after only five minutes when Mark Irwin scored, Ballygawley equalised through Gary Fowley and went ahead when Kyle Carty scored from a Gary Fowley cross.

Paul Flanagan struck a great shot to leave Ballygawley coasting at the break.

Ballymote came back into the game in the second half and scored two very late goals in injury time through Mark Irwin and Shane Regan to grab a great point in an exciting game.

In The Andrew Mullens Sligo Pallets Premier League Cartron United welcomed south Sligo side Real Tubber to IT Sligo.

A win here for Cartron United would see them take over as leaders of the Premier League while a win for the visitors would hoist them up into mid table so it was all to play for.

Cartron started with a high tempo and were leading by three goals to one at the interval.

The second half was even more one sided with the Cartron defence in dominant mood and their attack in overdrive they went on to score four more goals to take over as leaders of the Premier League.

Kevin Buckley netted a hat trick with Colin Feehily, John Harte, Justin Curran and Enda McGowan all adding to the Cartron tally.

Eoin Walsh netted the only goal for a battling Real Tubber.

The FAI Junior

Cup dominated proceedings at the weekend with the majority of clubs locking horns with clubs from the Roscommon League.

This was a tall order for some of the younger Sligo Leitrim clubs.

St John’s had the daunting task of an away draw to last season’s beaten FAI Junior Cup semi-finalists Boyle Celtic. Boyle won this at a canter as expected by eight goals to two with Malachy Spratt still finding the back of the Boyle Celtic net on two occasions in a determined display despite the score line. Riverstown young guns Arrow Harps travelled to take on Connacht Champions Ballinasloe Town again a very stiff challenge and as expected Ballinasloe Town proved too strong for Arrow Harps winning by a score line of five goals to two.

A Noel McKenna strike was taken on the chest by Anthony Elding and guided into the Ballinasloe net.

Ben Touhy fastened on to a superb pass from Elding and scored the second for an Arrow Harps side that will have learned a lot from this encounter.

Leitrim Kingpins Manor Rangers journeyed to Ballymoe with a very young side and were decisively beaten by six goals to nil.

Strand Celtic lost at home to a similar score against St Peter’s of Athlone.

Glenview Stars had a great win away to Roscommon Town courtesy of a 35 yard screamer of a free kick from Alan Collum ten minutes from time.

Ballisodare United had an impressive victory at home to Ballaghaderreen.

Andrew Patton put Ballisodare two up after only 20 minutes and then close to half time the striker was involved in a clash with the Ballaghaderreen keeper that saw the young striker taken to hospital.

Ballisodare scored twice more in the second half, Darragh Healy restoring order and young Odhran Mahon scoring his first senior goal.

Merville United advance by the odd goal in seven at home to Cloonfad.

Ryan McManus scoed twice with Bradley Fowley adding a third and the winner from the penalty spot from Graham Irwin.
