FARMING
Green Cert ‘Essential for the future’
TAX exemptions, such as stamp duty, and increased grant and scheme funding are just some of the benefits being offered to young farmers with a Green Cert. These benefits have been particularly important in the latest CAP reform whereby young qualified farmers are entitled to grant aid of 60% on farm investment and an increase in ‘entitlement’ value from the national reserve.
Modern farming is a challenging business and the Green Cert gives young farm- ers an opportunity to learn about the best farm systems, farm finances, farm safety and the latest farming technologies. The course strikes a good balance between theory and practice with students getting the chance to undertake practical demonstrations and farm walks on some of the most productive farms in the county.
Skills training, the use of computer based farm packages including cost control planners, profit monitors and a 5 year farm business plan will be undertaken, allowing students to map out the most efficient system for their farm.
Although uncertain what future CAP policies will entail, with the agricultural industry at the forefront of the Irish economy you can be guaranteed the Green Cert will play an essential role. Having the Green Cert means you are a ‘ trained farmer’ eligible for any taxation or Department Scheme benefits that may be introduced in the years ahead.
