If you ever held any romantic notions of owning a writer’s cottage by the sea, now is your chance to make that dream a reality!

The traditional cottage which was once home to renowned poet, novelist and playwright Leland Bardwell is on the market.

With an asking price of €100,000 the seaside pad in Ballinful, North Sligo is packed with rustic charm although it may be in need of some renovation.

Auctioneer Patsy Smyth of DM Auctions is selling the two bedroom detached property.

He says: “This cottage comes with a range of old out offices on circa 0.59 of an acre site and is for sale by Private Treaty.

“The cottage is in a most scenic location along the Atlantic Coastline and has breathtaking views of the both Benbulben and Inishmurray Island.”

In fact you couldn’t get much closer to the ocean as the old stone cottage is situated right along the shoreline and is located just 10 miles from Sligo Town.

Writer Leland Bardwell died in June 2016 at the age of 94. The inspirational artist wrote five novels, five plays and a musical based on the life of her heroine Edith Piaf.

The price tag of €100,000 is open to negociation. Leland Bardwell who was very much a bohemian once described her life as a crescendo of madness with blood, booze and song. In later years she enjoyed the serenity of living a quiet life by the sea in North Sligo.
