THE Sligo Masters footballers are just one win away from an unlikely tilt at All-Ireland final and potentially a national title.

Boasting a rich collection of former Inter-county greats such as Eamonn O’Hara, Paul Taylor, David Durcan, Ronan Keane, Nigel Clancy, Fintan Kennedy, Paul Durcan, Con O’Meara, Padraic Doohan, Johnny Kenny and Dessie Sloyne, the Sligo side sprinted into the last four by winning five and drawing one of their six group games.

Cavan stand between the Sligo Masters and a final bout against either Donegal or Mayo who play in the second semi-final. Both clashes will take place on Saturday, October 21st.

The Sligo Masters side is managed by Neil Carew, Gerry Monaghan and Reggie McNulty.

O’Hara, the former Sligo captain, All Star and now RTÉ Sunday Game pundit said: “I still love to pull on the county jersey, to soldier with guys I played with all my football career, and to test myself against the best from other counties.

“The Masters series is good for both the body and the head and it’s no wonder so many players want to be involved.”

While the Yeats County side has more former inter-county stars than most there are many less well-known players excelling in this year’s Championship.

Eamonn added: “The Masters is full of players who are excellent footballers and in great shape who, for one reason or another, CONNOLLY Park was the venue for the Sligo LGFA U16 girls finals on Sunday afternoon and there was some very entertaining matches being played. Tourlestrane won the A title with a 7-10 to 6-10 victory over St Mary’s in what was an extremely high scoring affair.

Shamrock Gaels won the B final, with a four point victory over Eastern Harps, while CT Gaels beatlSt Molaise Gaels in the C Championship by four points.

In the Connacht Junior Club semi-final, Coolera/Strandhill came up short against Tuam/Cortoon on a scoreline of 6-16 to 1-8 in Swinford.
