Opponents revealed for Sligo NY final

THEY are in their first final in eleven years and after a delay of a week, the Sligo GAA team in New York now know who they play in the Intermedia­te decider this Sunday at 4pm.The final was supposed to take last Sunday but there was a drawn semi-final between Longford and Brooklyn Shamrocks which delayed the game for a week,

The replay saw Longford overcome the challenge of Brooklyn Shamrocks to play Sligo this Sunday.

As it is the first time since 2006 that Sligo are in a final, the team is getting huge support not only in the Big Apple but also back home from players’ families, club teammates and friends. There is a large number of locals on the side, which is managed by Gerry Fox, with Brian Henry of Curry selector, Johnny Glynn Trainer/Selector with Ger McCullagh and Marie Geraghty physio. Among the team are: St John’s Eoin Flanagan, Paddy Greene and Paul McDaid, Coolera/Strandhill’s Vinnie Cadden and Jamie Brannigan, Darragh McConnon from Calry/St Joseph’s, James Brett and John O’Hora from Curry, Paul Kelly and Colin Keane from St Pat’s and Shane Barry from Shamrock Gaels. Both Eoin Flanagan (defender) and Vinny Cadden (goalkeeper)were on the New York team which played Sligo in Gaelic Park for the opening round of the Connacht championsh­ip. Also on the team are Rob Gorman, Brendan Treanor, Hugh Murray, Tiernan Lambe, Brian Glynn, Shane McNamee, Daniel McKenna, Conall Kelly, Andrew McClean, Micky Lenaghan and Sennin Flanagan. All the black and white army are hoping to be celebratin­g come Sunday evening in New York. The game will be streamed on their FB page Sligo Gaanewyork and on Snapchat Sligonygaa.
