Raising vital money for SHOUT
North Sligo Athletic Club held their 40th Dinner Dance at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday with some top names in the sport in attendance.
Special guest on the night was Olympian Thomas Barr, the Irish Senior Record Holder for the 400m Hurdles.
North Sligo AC has produced some of the best runners in the county since it was established, including Mary Cullen, European Indoor Bronze medallist, A son who organises an annual charity cycle in memory of his mum has raised close to €63,000 for SHOUT (Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust). The group raised €18,755 alone in this year’s cycle.
John Cavanagh set up the Delma Cavanagh charity cycle which saw a large group of cyclists complete the route from Limerick to Leitrim, taking in parts of Sligo.
John said they were thrilled with the amount of money raised for the charity. He added: “We once again had a very successful Delma Cavanagh Limerick to Leitrim Charity Cycle in aid of SHOUT.
“The Cycle took place on the 11th and 12th of August. Starting in Pery Square in Limerick on Friday, August 11th with an overnight stop in Hannon’s Hotel Roscommon, and on to Dromahair on the Saturday.”
The cyclists completed a total distance of 270km and last weekend a presentation night was held in Stanfords, Dromahair.
John said on behalf of the organisers, he would like to thank everyone who raised money, supported the event, helped along the way and of course the cyclists who took on the challenge of cycling from Limerick to Leitrim in memory of the late Delma Cavanagh.
