Summerhill meet Grammar

-

SLIGO GRAMMAR SCHOOL SUMMERHILL COLLEGE 12 29

Summerhill were displaying their class in the opening half, getting off to a flying start which saw some of the bench being introduced in the second period as the visitors looked in control. With seven minutes on the clock, they scored their first of five tries, a quick movement saw the Grammar School unable to dispel the intense pressure from Summerhill.

The visitors failed to convert from a difficult angle but they kept the pressure on and were rewarded with another try on 19 minutes, this time Ben Kelly was extremely accurate with the conversion as Summerhill led by 12-0. The movement was impressive from the Summerhill attack and their third try came five minutes from the break, this time Michael Broaders burst through to touch down and Kelly converted as Summerhill led 19-0 at halftime. Any hopes of Sligo Grammar getting off to a scoring start were thwarted three minutes into the second half when Summerhill got their fourth try. Hooker Bob Reynolds the scorer as the Summerhill replacements were coming into the action.

Then, on 40 minutes, Sligo Grammar saw themselves breaking through to score their first try, good teamwork, with Isaac Ellision adding the conversion as the score was 24-7.

There was a halt to proceedings after Sligo Grammar’s Tynan Maxwell suffered a heavy challenge and had to be replaced with Baran Yilmaz coming on.

The Grammar School heads were lifted after their first try and they were getting more into the game.

Any hopes of a comeback were silenced when Reynolds got another try following a great move through the Grammar defence to put them into a 29-7 lead as the finish was approaching.

Another Grammar School attack through Esras Murphy was awarded with their second try, the kick unlucky to come off the post as Summerhill ran out winners on a 29-12 scoreline.
