Carbury ease to victory at the top

CARBURY made the short trip to the seaside a most enjoyable one stamping their authority on this clash with second placed Strand Celtic in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League.

Strand conceded yet another six goals in a week Ibrahim Savage crashing home a superb hattrick with Gareth Kelly scoring twice against his old club and Mark McGoldrick hitting the net for a rampant Carbury.

Strand hit back twice with a goal each from Barry O’Mahoney and Daniel Lang but Carbury now have a five point lead at the top of the table.

The Riverstown Boys Arrow Harps journeyed to take on St John’s at the Astro in Cleveragh and what a game this turned out to be.

The Big Man Anthony Elding powered home the opening goal for Arrow Harps on 25 minutes and nine minutes later Stephen Armstrong struck for St John’s to level the game.

Both sides were in attacking mode and yet with six minutes remaining they were level.

Arrow Harps then took the lead and what looked to be the winner when once again the Big Man Anthony Elding rattled home his second goal and the lead for Arrow Harps.

But St John’s had other ideas and like all good sides battled on and were rewarded three minutes later when Malachy Spratt fired home a glorious equaliser but there was still more drama with the clock running down Malachy Spratt rifled home his second goal and the lead for St John’s and on the stroke of full time Arrow Harps hit the crossbar.

This was a game of epic proportion­s and both sides have to be compliment­ed on such a performanc­e St John’s emerged winners by the odd goal in five but the real winner here was the players and clubs.

Ballisodar­e United welcomed Aughanagh Celtic for their encounter and the visitors took the lead on 27 minutes with Dermot Beggan on the mark for Aughanagh.

Conor Davey drew Ballisodar­e level eight minutes later and the sides remained locked until the 62 minute when the legend Kevin O’Hara fired Ballisodar­e into the lead.

Aughanagh battled on and were rewarded 16 minutes later when Liam McTiernan netted the equaliser and then four minutes from time he put Aughanagh Celtic in the lead with his second goal.

Ballisodar­e looking to be heading for defeat but two minutes into injury time the young Darren Somers stepped up and grabbed a glorious equaliser for a delighted Ballisodar­e.

Ballygawle­y Celtic were at home to Calry Bohs in this bottom of the table clash with points at a premium and Calry proved the more decisive.

Kevin Coen opened the account for Calry Bohs with further goals from Paul Logan, Conor Griffin and Eoin Nicholson wrapping up the points for an in form Calry Bohs.

Cartron United maintain poll position in The Andrew Mullens Sligo Pallets Premier League hit- ting eight goals without reply at home to Gurteen Celtic.

Gavin McDonagh was in blistering form, grabbing four goals with a goal each from John Harte, Justin Curran, Ronan Moriarty and Martin Floyd completing the day’s business for Cartron United who take on second placed Cliffoney Celtic in Mullaghmor­e next week in what promises to be an absolute cracker of a game.

Merville United continue their surge winning by the odd goal in five at home to a rejuvenate­d Glenview Stars who will feel a bit hard done by.

Leading scorer Ryan McManus brings his league tally to nine after netting the opener for Merville on 20 minutes and five minutes before half time Conor Cox made it two nil for the home side.

Glenview Stars came back into contention five minutes into the second half when Ronan O’Grady pulled a goal back. Merville again scored on 70 minutes courtesy of Tyler Stallard but Glenview Stars battled on and were rewarded a penalty ten minutes from time that Clive Brennan dispatched.

This ensured a grand stand finish but Merville held out and in the end took all three points.

North Sligo side Benbulben continue their climb up the table winning at Grange against visitors Chaffpool United.

Jamie McGloughli­n opened the account for Benbulben on 50 minutes and brother Alan made in two nil from the penalty spot sixteen minutes later.

Benbulben were tight in defence and quick on the break but Chaffpool kept plugging away and in injury time their efforts were rewarded when Kevin Gallagher fired home for the Pool.

Coolaney United were at home to high flying Cliffoney Celtic and despite losing Coolaney gave a good account of themselves.

Bartley Clancy scored twice for Cliffoney with a goal apiece for Niall Sheerin and Niall Thomas ensuring all three points for Cliffoney who will be looking forward to welcoming Cartron United next Sunday.

Oscar Traynor Squad Training: The Oscar Traynor Team Manager John Loftus and his staff will continue training sessions next Friday night at the Ray MacSharry Park, weather permitting.

Any change of venue the manager will notify all his players in advance. All players as selected by Manager John Loftus to be at the Venue at 7.30pm. The game v Galway will take place at Mac Sharry Park on Sunday 29th October KO 2pm. With the exception of the above fixture there are no other games scheduled for the weekend of the 29th October.
