Foleys are now top of the Rovers Astro

FOLEYS Bar registered a 4-2 victory over Strand Celtic on Friday, to make it three wins from three and they now sit top of the Sligo Rovers Astro league. From the start, Foleys Bar piled on the pressure on the youthful Strand Celtic side as they went in search of the opener. The game was no more than 10 minutes old when their bright start was rewarded courtesy of a goal from Eric McMorrow. Strand Celtic caused problems for Foleys but failed to capitalise in the final third. Such is the strength and depth of the Foleys side they were guilty at some stages of trying to walk the ball into the net. However, twenty minutes into the first half Lee Marshall made it 2-0 with a terrific effort from just outside the penalty area.

Two became three, with Eric McMorrow notching his second. Foleys continued to enjoy dominance in possession and made it 4-0 with a deflected effort, with the goal awarded to Eric McMorrow, ensuring his hat-trick. To their credit however, with 15 minutes to go Strand Celtic never gave up hope and got a goal back straight away courtesy of Sean Murphy to make it 4-1.

Instantly it became 4-2 after a wonderful individual effort from Senan Sheehan. There after Strand had chances to make it 4-3 but failed to capitalise on some golden opportunit­ies. Foleys Bar managed to hang on and go top of the league standings. The White Gorillas got their first points of the season at the expense of GSS after recording an impressive 4-2 victory. The White Gorillas raced into a 2-0 lead and seemed to be strolling to a comfortabl­e victory. However, GSS replied from the penalty spot courtesy of the emphatic Brendan Lowry. A wonder goal from Iount from the half way line made it 2-2. However, the White Gorillas responded with another two goals to register a 4-2 victory. Goal scorers for the White Gorillas were Thomas Finnerty, John McNulty, Joey Kennedy and John Mc Clean.

There were also impressive wins for Forrest Celtic and the Bald Eagles, with victories over Ballymote Celtic and the Sally Gardens respective­ly.
