The Sligo Champion

Gala awards night set for November

-

SLIGO Rovers’ ‘Gala Awards Night’ will be held in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo on Friday 3rd November. The 2016 end of season function was a hugely enjoyable occasion, and this year’s event should also attract great interest among Sligo Rovers supporters and the wider community.

The evening will again include presentations in a number of award categories reflecting the many strands of activities in the club: - Senior Player of the Year

- Young Player of the Year

- Under 19 Player of the Year

- Under 17 Player of the Year

- Hall of Fame Award

The ceremony will also see the presenta- tion of the special ‘Spirit of Sligo Rovers’ Award to honour an individual who has given distinguished service and encapsulates what it means to be a special volunteer of the club. The 2016 Award was presented to long serving Rovers stalwart Jack Carney.

Chairman Martin Heraghty believes a social get-together is a fitting way to round off the season. ‘Sligo Rovers plays a very important role in the lives of our supporters, volunteers and sponsors, and the Awards night presents an ideal opportunity for the Sligo Rovers ‘family’, along with their spouses/partners to come together in a relaxing social setting to reflect on the current season and to look forward to the 2018 season.

A very popular element of last year’s function was the Awards to our U 17 and U 19 players, and they have excelled again in what has been an outstanding season for both teams. We are building a strong foundation for the future and it’s important to acknowledge the outstanding performance of our young players this season.’

As with last year’s awards, Rovers will be asking supporters for their help in selecting Senior Player and Young Player of the Year, and details of an ‘on-line’ vote will be announced shortly. Tickets for the Gala Awards are available from the club office or any member of the Management/organising Committee.
