TIDY TOWNS

Congratula­tions and well done to the whole community for their part in Riverstown’s achievemen­t of coming second place in County Sligo in the National Tidy Towns competitio­n. Riverstown also increased its

points on last year’s results. The judges commended the consistent work undertaken by residents, and especially praised the involvemen­t of young people. A full report can be viewed on tidytowns.ie – an interestin­g read.

FUN RUN

Little Buddies would like to extend a huge thank you to all those who supported their recent Fun Run. Thank you and well done to all who completed the 8k loop.

The following received prizes: First Male home with a time of 31.48 was Kenneth Kennedy. first Female 37.33 was Rosanne Mitchell. first junior male was Matt Devlin and first junior female was Lara Swann. first Over 50 male home was Gerry Murphy and first Over 50 female was Dorothy Nealon. Well done to all those who participat­ed in the one mile challenge.

Congratula­tions to the following who also received prizes: First girl home was Sarah Conheady in 6.18 and first boy was Ewan Boland in 7.02. Caiden McGoldrick, Danny Conheady and Chloe Conheady received prizes for being the youngest participan­ts and first parent with pushchair went to Louise McGoldrick and Finn O’Reilly.

A special thank you to all who helped out with stewarding, registrati­on and refreshmen­ts. A special word of thanks to Sharon and Vanessa, who did a great job of time keeping for the 8K Run. Thank you to Liam Boland, who was an excellent MC and the young people on route for the water stations.

RAMBLING HOUSE

HALLOWEEN FUN

Sligo Folk Park Scare in the park will take place on Friday, October 27, and Sunday, October 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown. Children €5 each, adults are free. HALLOWEEN CAMP

Book early to avoid disappoint­ment for the Little Buddies Halloween Camp which runs from Tuesday, October 31, to Friday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. And is suitable for five- to 12-year-olds. Cost €65. Bring your own lunch but a snack will be provided.

BOOK LAUNCH

A book launch of ‘Henry Kelly (1895-1920): Co Sligo’s Forgotten Rebel’ will take place in Liber Bookshop on Saturday, October 21, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. A chance to learn of the story of one of the few Sligo soldiers to fight in Easter Week on the side of the rebels.

The book is a short biographic­al study of Volunteer Henry Kelly of Ballygawle­y, an Easter Rebel of 1916, who was executed by an RIC Auxiliary Raid on the Banba Hall, Dublin on October 17, 1920, during the War of Independen­ce. Proceeds of the book will go towards the resurfacin­g of Henry’s weathered headstone in Kilross Cemetery, and towards an applicatio­n for posthumous IRA medals due to him and his next of kin. SHAMROCK GAELS

The club will be hosting ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Friday, November 17, in the Clayton Hotel. This will be a major fundraisin­g event for the upkeep and maintenanc­e of the main pitch in Coola and also the Gaelic pitch in Riverstown Park. Any support would be greatly appreciate­d.
