Tidy Towns party night
THE civic minded heroes who keep our streets and housing estates spick and span enjoyed a special night of prize giving last week.
Fresh from their success of a first time medal in the National Supervalu Tidy Towns Awards, local Tidy Towns Committees gathered in the Sligo Park Hotel last Tuesday 10 th October to recognize their achievements.
The annual celebration was well attended with over 80 people present from resident groups, schools, Globe House and Men’s Sheds.
Lucy Brennan and John Kielty provided some advice on the night on how to improve marks gained by residents committees. Michael Bell pro- vided a fantastic presentation on Wildlife and how to create and preserve suitable Habitats, while Mary Naughton over saw the Junior Tidy Towns schools competition.
The evening was opened and closed with remarks by Chairman Peter Tiernan who commended the past & present committees and volunteers and paid tribute to the work done previously to achieve the recent results.
Junior Tidy Town tidiness Winners: Primary: 1st Mercy Primary, 2nd Scoil Ursula. Post-Primary : 1st Mercy College, 2nd Ballinode College.
Best Kept Large Estate: 1st Kevinsfort, 2nd The Park. Joint 3rd Carton Point/View and Kevinsfort Heath.
Best Kept Small Estate: 1st Markievicz Heights, 2nd Cedar Drive.
Local Authority Estates: 1st Cranmore Place, 2nd Cranmore Drive.
Most Improved Estate : Tracy Avenue.
Best Street: Jinks Avenue. Adjudicators Award: Greenfort Estate.
The Anti-Litter Anti – Gum (ALAG) is a separate competition judged over the Summer months.
July Winners: Rathanna, Marymount and Pearse Crescent.
August Winners: Cartron View/Point, Rusheen Ard and Tracy Avenue. September Winners: The Park, Markievicz Heights and Old Cartron Hill.
