Michael Porter Cup played in Ballymote
THE Third Michael Porter Annual Memorial Cup was played at Ballymote Court last week.
Players from Roscommon , Mayo , and Sligo took part. Local members Francis McCann and Kevin Meehan were defeated in their quarter final matches. Francis McCann was defeated by Ballaghadereen’s Vinny Moran and Kevin Meehan was defeated by Swinford’s Ollie Cassidy.In the other quarter finals defending champion Shane Bruen (Collooney) defeated Michael Ginley (Bofield) and Sean Jennings (Lisacul) got a W/O to Tom Sweeny (Balinrobe).
In two rip roaring semi finals Vinny Moran defeated Sean Jennings and Shane Bruen defeated Ollie Cassidy in the most entertaining match of the day.
Andy Moran may have failed to bring Sam Maguire cup back to Mayo and Ballaghadereen but brother Vinny made sure to bring back Michael Porter Cup when he defeated Shane Bruen in the final 2 games to nil.
Margaret Porter mother of the late Michael Porter presented the cup to the winner and and trophie to runner up.
Francis McCann Secretary of club thanked Porter family for been present ,he went on to thank players who took part and said how important it is to hold these Tournaments in memory of our players who have passed on and recognise them for their acievements over their sporting lives.
The Michael Hannon Memorial Cup will be held at the local court on Sunday November 5th.
