Jackie from Cloongoona, Tourlestrane, was a former Sligo player in the 1960s and a passionate follower of the sport.

His son Eamonn had a stellar career in the black and white jersey, winning an All-Star in 2002 and is now joint manager of the Tourlestrane Senior team.

Jackie’s grandson, Cian Breheny, also plays for Sligo.

Large crowds attended Jackie’s removal and Funeral Mass on Thursday in St Attracta’s Church, Tourlestrane. Jackie is survived by his wife Anne, sons Derek and Eamonn, daughters Ruth, Maree and Jacqueline, brother Fr Eamonn O’Hara, extended family and friends.

Sligo GAA said they were saddened on hearing of the news of the passing of Jackie and would like to offer its deepest condolences to the O’Hara family on their loss. In their statement online, they said: “Jackie represented Sligo at Senior level in the 1960s before injury cut his career short but had many enjoyable years thereafter, following the football career of his son Eamonn and in later years grandson Cian Breheny wearing the Sligo jersey. He will be sadly missed by his Family and wide circle of friends.”

After Mass of the Resurrection, Jackie was laid to rest in Rhue cemetery.
